July 7: Remembering Unimec Day and the rebirth of Unimec, 22 years later

On July 7, 2001, an F3 power tornado, one of the most devastating in the history of Brianza, struck Unimec's headquarters, completely destroying it.

Luigi Maggioni, the founder of Unimec, was seriously injured in the disaster. This catastrophic event could have marked the end of Unimec... Instead, it represented a new beginning.

This day, now known as "Unimec Day," is not a remembrance of a tragedy, but a celebration of Unimec's strength, resilience, and unity: it is a moment when we honor the determination to stand tall and move forward, despite seemingly insurmountable challenges.

In fact, only a year after the tornado, in July 2002, Luigi Maggioni, fully recovered, inaugurated Unimec's new buildings: a year and a half after the tragedy Unimec opened a new headquarters in the Triveneto region, demonstrating its indomitable spirit and boundless ambition.

The story of Unimec's rebirth from its ashes is told in the book  "Una spinta verso l'alto" (in English ""A push upward") by Paola Scaccabarozzi, which collects the testimonies of Luigi, Alessandro and Stefania Maggioni: the book highlights the key role of Unimec's team, collaboration and willingness to overcome obstacles in moving the company forward.

Every Unimec Day, Luigi Maggioni, accompanied by key figures in Unimec's history, delivers a touching speech for all employees.This occasion also serves to recognize and reward those Unimec team members who have distinguished themselves for their manufacturing excellence and long-term commitment to the company.

This year's Unimec Day resonates with a special resonance, as it reminds us once again how Unimec has withstood tragic events such as the destruction of 2001 and the recent COVID-19 crisis, never losing its strength and determination.
