Unimec and a world-class partner join forces for a special application in Mexico
Unimec has been cooperating for years with a multinational organization recognized worldwide as a leader in the steel pipe industry. New, unique and ambitious projects have originated from this partnership with the most recent being developed for their Mexican branch.
The application required a special reducer, capable of operating in a critical environment with extreme temperatures: Unimec’s R&D department worked together with the customer’s Technical Department and developed a brand new, 3-ton, two-stage reducer, with a straight-tooth bevel gear.
The reducer features:
- A 1/3 reduction ratio
- 36 rpm input and 12 rpm output
- Nominal torque of 13,000 Nm
- Max output-torque of 40,000 Nm
- Special gaskets
- Reinforced gears
- 400 mm diameter Timken bearings
- 600 mm input-output span
- Front assembly
The application was also developed with the help of the Project Manager in Mexico: the entire unit was oversized upon request. “The risk of the machine stopping” – said Tomas Teruzzi, Chief Technical Officer at Unimec – “was not an option; the essential prerogatives of this application were maximum safety and reliability, as well as consistent, impeccable performance for a 24/7/365 cycle duty in an extreme temperature environment”.
This special reducer is another success story for Unimec; it reinforces the company’s versatility, expertise and confidence in manufacturing tailor-made products for unique applications and special needs.
