Unimec buys a Leistritz, synonym of excellence in the production of spindles

Seeking continuous improvement, growing efficiency and top optimization of its productive processes, Unimec decided to invest in the purchase of a top class machine tool: a Leistritz, a brand well-known worldwide.

This brand is the international leader in the field of internal and external threads and also in the realization of special profiles. The purchase of this machinery has been necessary to face the ever growing number of orders which required shorter delivery times without forgoing the quality of the product.

Leistritz is an external whirling machine for the realization of external and internal threads of flawless precision: Unimec employs this machinery to produce spindles, trapezoidal spindles, spindles for ball screw jacks and special profiles.

Its technical features prove the high quality and top precision of this machine tool, shown below the most important ones:

• 4 mts machining length;
• transition bar d.100;
• working from d.18 to 120 up to lengths of 6 mts and more according to the drawing;
• 9 CNC axis of which 4 for bar support (independents from each other);
• tail-stock on CNC axis removable with reference points;
• Siemens control;
• remote control system with the mother house in order to avoid problems during the programming of complex components or when using new materials;
• auto-resume of the thread by Marposs System probe which prevents unsightly and difficult imperfections dangerous for the proper assembly with nut;

• positioning accuracy X-axis and Z-axis < 0,002 mm;
• high structural stiffness of the machining length which allows high removals of shaving all at once;

• whirling rings with 4 or 6 holders for tungsten carbide insert (roughing / finishing / chamfering) which allow the processing of mild, alloy and highly alloyed steel;
• external pre-setting system to be always ready to the replacement of the cut ring (when required) in very short times.

Moreover, finishing thread surface goes from 0.02 Ra with new insert to 0.08 Ra with insert reground (values similar to grinding machine).
