Unimec Day: from ruins to leadership in mechanical transmission

In Unimec’s annals there is one date that is more significant than others: July 7th 2001. That day is so symbolic for us that it has been dubbed “Unimec Day”.

In Unimec’s annals there is one date that is more significant than others: July 7th 2001.
That day a sudden tornado, a natural event that is virtually unknown in Italy, completely demolished our headquarters in Usmate Velate, leaving just a pile of ruins and nothing more. That day is so symbolic for us that it has been dubbed “Unimec Day”.

It could have been the end of everything but instead, this tragic event turned out to be the beginning of the next chapter of a great adventure. Today, 14 years later, we can tell the story of an unshakeable company that was able to resurrect itself from its own ashes and become one of the world’s leaders in the power transmission field with a unique line of mechanical screw-jacks, bevel gear reducers and mechanical speed modulators for all sorts of industrial applications.

Today Unimec is a multimillion dollar international organization, with a direct presence in all of the five continents and a capillary network of international distributors and direct branches in Germany, France, Spain and the United States.
A direct expansion in the Far East is also in the works.

Unimec’s rebuilding process includes the recent expansion of our Headquarters and the inauguration of our third production facility now covering almost 250,000 sq/ft.
Our production fleet includes 76 fully-automated CNC machines which have been implemented with a significant increase of personnel. Thanks to this formidable combination last year we were able to manufacture 29,000 complete units: considering that June has already closed at 15,000 units, this record is expected to be surpassed in 2015.

The year 2015 is also particularly encouraging and auspicious considering that Unimec continues to hire and invest, while most of Europe remains in economic turmoil with declining employment rates.

Unimec’s significant investments are not only for the short term but also, and most importantly for the future of the company: in fact, Unimec’s R&D Department has just recently registered two new patents and the whole company is undergoing a radical digitalization that will further improve our efficiency and offer better service to all of our Customers.

While constantly projecting its sights on tomorrow, Unimec is also proud to be well rooted in its native territory and traditions: Unimec’s ingenuity is a prime example of Made in Italy excellence, a trait that is also demonstrated with a significant marketing presence in the Expo 2015 Event currently taking place in Milan.

The constant commitment of the Maggioni family, as well as the dedication of every single employee are the true assets of our company: a solid organization that today, 14 years after such a painful memory, will be proudly celebrating its “Unimec Day”.
