Robot Sirelli

UNIMEC products come to life thanks to artist Massimo Sirelli: the Company “adopts” a robot

thanks to the creativity and ingenuity of artist Massimo Sirelli and the experience and craftsmanship of the Unimec production staff, Unimec has a new mascot: a robo!

Since the year of its foundation – 1981 – Unimec has manufactured many products for a variety of applications: steel, food, aerospace, offshore and many more. But, what if we told you that some of our components have recently been used to manufacture… a robot?

LM-81: this is how the new Unimec mascot has been named. The “creature” came to life thanks to the creativity and ingenuity of artist Massimo Sirelli and the experience and craftsmanship of the Unimec production staff that helped Massimo to put together the various body parts of our robot.

Massimo Sirelli is a young artist from the Italian region of Calabria who has worked with many international organizations: after seeing Unimec’s products and falling in love with them, Sirelli had the vision to use them for his latest idea, “Adopt a Robot”, which basically consists of creating a robot using both scrap and new materials: this is how LM-81 was born.

Unimec components have been assembled with only 23 bolts, 12 washers and no use of glues or adhesives whatsoever.

  • For the upper body, Massimo used the case of a Size 407 screw jack;
  • The head is the case of a Size 86 bevel-gear reducer;
  • A lateral hub of a Size 306 screw-jack forms the neck;
  • Legs are made of two motor worm screws from a Size 407 screw-jack and ankles are made of two RG nuts from Size 559;
  • For the feet he used two nuts of a TPR407;
  • The eyes can “see” through two Size 54 bevels;
  • Shoulders are made of two TOR End-Fittings;
  • The hands are made with two TFC End-Fittings while the arms are made of 30x6 threaded spindles;
  • Finally, the “heart” of the robot is a bronze worm wheel.

Sirelli defined the Unimec warehouse as his own “playground” and told us that he was thrilled to build a one-of-a-kind robot like LM-81: in fact, it was the first time that he was able to put his hands on extremely high quality materials such as top grade solid bronze, steel, stainless steel and cast iron.
Our robot is now in our HQ’s event room and anybody can come visit him.

LM-81 is not only “a bunch of parts” but a beautiful piece of art that we want to bring to life just like all of our products. Each one of his body parts is an expression of us, of our work, our world and our values and… who knows? Maybe in the future we will adopt another robot to keep him company…
