Unimec sides with the University of Pisa to win the 2015 Formula Student Challenge

The dynamic Italian company was thrilled to welcome the request from over 30 PhD students from the Engineering Department at the University of Pisa, involved in the design and manufacturing of a race car prototype that will compete in the 2015 Formula Student challenge. 

But what is the “Formula Student”? It is an actual race car championship in which engineering students from over 100 top European Universities compete in the design and manufacturing of innovative race car prototypes.

All race cars competing on track must be unique, but also safe, reliable, comfortable and properly finished. Each race of the championship requires both static tests, in which professional judges will examine the overall quality of the technical and economic solutions, as well as dynamic challenges, including a 12-mile endurance race, not a minor undertaking, considering that we’re talking about completely handmade, self-assembled and self-financed competition cars.

The E-Team of the University of Pisa is currently working to manufacture the chassis of the car that will soon be roaring on the starting grid. For this particular manufacturing step they needed a pair of completely custom-made bevel gear reducers with special retention gaskets: Unimec turned out to be the ideal partner for this venture.

Unimec accepted the challenge and offered their expertise and guidance to help the E-team students in their project. The company will also be officially present at the actual races to be held this upcoming spring.
