Unimec: R&D and web solutions to increase our competitive edge after the COVID-19 crisis

The COVID-19 pandemic literally stopped the entire world.

As is often the case, crises are also opportunities to ponder current situations, elaborate new strategies, adapt and transform to new realities and get back in the game stronger than before.

Unimec, a global leader in Screw Jacks, Bevel Gear Reducers and Speed Modulators, fully resumed all production activities at the beginning of May, while the international branches (USA, Spain, Germany and France) followed the specific directives issued by their respective countries and, in some cases, never closed.

The few weeks of halted activity in Italy represented an opportunity to focus on some important customer service aspects that would have to be addressed upon reopening.

With regards to R&D we developed and implemented the protocols on our brand new custom Screw Jack Testing Machine delivered at the end of 2019 and the existing custom Bevel Gear Reducer Testing Machine, installed and operational since the end of 2018. These state-of-the-art machines are “one of a kind” tools, unique in the world and unheard of in the industry: they represent a formidable asset to further consolidate Unimec’s global supremacy in terms of total quality and reliability.

Considering the current travel restrictions, the Company has also developed new and more effective web tools that will further improve the communication and interaction with all of our Customers.

The reopening of our HQ’s and main Manufacturing Plant has also seen some major safety measures such as weekly sanitation of all areas, individual safety kits for all of our employees, sterilizing devices and disinfecting agents that exceed all current requirements.

Coronavirus may have temporarily slowed us down but certainly did not stop us; on one hand we focused on delivering products to all of our essential customers in the food, packaging, pharmaceutical, sanitary and non-woven fabrics industries, but on the other hand, we never lost sight of our longer-term projects, for example, the new ESO Space Telescope which will observe outer space from the Andes in Chile.

As we finally leave this global pandemic behind, we look forward to continuing on our path of success with all of our Customers and partners.
